Storm Surge Advice - PREPARE NOW - SHARK BAY PENINSULA
A Storm Surge Advice is in place for people in the SHARK BAY PENINSULA including MONKEY MIA, DENHAM and HAMELIN POOL. This is due to Severe Tropical Cyclone Sean continuing to move to the southwest of the Gascoyne coast, bringing high tides Tuesday afternoon and evening and into Wednesday.
WHAT TO DO
- Prepare to move cars, equipment, livestock and pets early so they are not caught in rising water levels.
- Watch for changes in water levels so you are ready if you need to evacuate, especially if camping in low-lying areas.
- If driving, obey road closure signs and do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS
Roads have not been closed.
- Access to Denham may be impacted. Never drive into water of unknown depth and current.
- Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
WHAT EMERGENCY SERVICES ARE DOING
- DFES is monitoring the situation.
DFES is working closely with the Shire of Shark Bay to protect infrastructure. Sand bags are available from the Shire Depot, Dampier Road with fillers assisting and shovels available.
